- MISONO JOGAKUIN JUNIOR & SENIOR HIGH
A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. (Matthew 5:14)
School Philosophy
Under the common motto of all Nanzan schools, “For Human Dignity,” participation in daily prayers, religious activities (e.g., Christmas celebration) as well as volunteer work are an important part of the school life of Misono students. The direction and purpose of these activities are expressed in a basic motto from Fr. Reiners: “Each and one of us human beings has a precious and unique mission.” This is the main objective of Misono education: “Find your mission.” The role of Misono Jogakuin is to help students find their unique personal mission. In order to find their mission, Misono students are challenged to always take one step further ahead. What is needed for taking such an initiative are three strengths - to discover something new, to improve oneself and take on new challenges, and to acknowledge that differences in skills and abilities are a call for cooperation, not competition.

On May 30, 1920, the apostolic administrator of the Niigata region, Fr. Joseph Reiners, SVD, founded the order of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. The Misono High School, founded in 1946 by the sisters as a Catholic girls' junior and senior high school, joined Nanzan School Corporation (also founded by Fr. Reiners in 1932) from April 2016.
School Motto
The spirit of Misono education is conveyed in three ideals, based on words of the New Testament, Faith, Diligence, and Meekness.
Faith
Recognizing that we need to put effort and time into the search for what is essential for human life, we are called to keep in mind that this faith is the power that moves us forward. “Your faith has healed you.” (Mark 5.34)
Diligence
While accepting that being imperfect will always be a part of oneself, the challenge is to put everything one has into a continued effort to make one's dream come closer to reality. “I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me.” (Philippians 3:12-14)
